Glancing over the Helioptile and Fennekin, Kara the Pancham was unsure of whether or not she should let them aid her. “I dunno... you two don’t look very tough.” Kara commented. A small fennec fox and an electric lizard, holding an ocarina no less.

“I assure you that we are two of the most well trained, highly adept Pokemon you’ll meet around here.” Mithora replied. “We would be perfect for this outfit, as long as it isn’t a permanent position. We are with the Explorers guild, I will remind you.”

“That’s the problem though. You can be tough, but if you don’t look like it then you can’t exactly intimidate the gangs around here. That is our goal here.”

“Ooo! Ooo! I can be intimidating!” Layron exclaimed. He started swinging his hands about, feigning slashing and making what Mithora presumed to be ‘rawring’ sounds. It was cute rather than anything else.

Cute was not what Kara needed though. “Look, if you’re not gonna be helpful then just get outa here.”

Mithora sighed and resigned that Kara may have a point. Layron certainly wasn’t the intimidating type, and although she was tough Mithora had to admit she didn’t have the looks either. “Look, we wanna get all the money we can, alright?” Mithora asked. “We don’t know when we’re gonna need it. Just let us come, please? We’ll stay in the back of the crowd and come out when something goes wrong.”

Kara considered the offer. These two kids seemed pretty new to town, that was for sure. She examined them closely once again. The Fennekin looked like she could at least glare when she needed to and the Helioptile... well, that weird look in his eyes might creep some Pokemon out... “Alright.” Kara decided. “You can help us out, but just stay in the back.”

Mithora sighed in relief and offered her sincerest thanks. Later that night, the two Explorers returned to the market for the job. A small crowd of Pokemon had gathered around Kara and were being given assignments. Group A take the northern street, group B take the southern street, group C take the cross street. Mithora opted for herself and Layron to join the third group. Everyone split up and started watching... There were plenty of market goers wandering about. Apparently the streets were very active, even on weekdays. The group hung out to one side of the street, being ever watchful of big groups.

A suspicious group happened to wander by. Five Pokemon, a Zoroark, a Simipour, a Liepard, a Staraptor, and a Gastrodon started walking by, slowing down when they noticed Kara’s group. Everyone started to take notice. The group came over to them and started making big talk. The leader of the gang, the rather thin looking Zoroark, began insulting them and telling them to ‘get off their streets’. One of the members of Kara’s group, a Scyther with a particularly sharp looking set of blades, stepped forward and held his blade out, asking the opposing group’s leader to repeat his words.

The Zoroark threw a blindingly fast punch, hitting the Scyther right in the stomach. He groaned and kneeled down in agony, apparently defeated from that one move. What this Zoroark lacked in muscle, he apparently made up for in speed and reflex. Angered, Mithora stepped up for the group and demanded the Zoroark and his group get off the streets, lest they be punished.

Kara was observing the situation some distance away. The Scyther getting KOed in one punch worried her but at least the Fennekin was stepping up. It showed defiance, she thought. At least, that was her thinking until the Zoroark kicked her in the face. Worried, she started to walk over to assist until the Helioptile stepped up.

“Can we talk?” Layron asked the Zoroark, his eyes growing wide and his smile bigger.

The following had to be cut due to repetitive vomiting on the author’s part, however several clips have been saved.

“Wait! Stop! What are you doing?!” Zoroark exclaimed.

“No wait! I’m sorry!” Staraptor exclaimed before-

-Simipour tripped up, and turned to see the tail swinging at him “Aaaaah!”

“Wait! What the hell is- AAAAAH!” Gastrodon said-

“What do you have against my balls, man?!” Simipour yelled

“I can taste my agony!” Lipard shouted.

“Not the liver! Please!” Zoroark yelled in fear.

    --------------------

Kara rushed forward and grabbed Layron’s arm before he could swing again. “By god man, that’s enough!!!” Kara yelled, her concern leaning more towards the opposing gang than anyone else. “I’m pretty sure they learned their lesson!”

The Zoroark writhed on the ground, twitching and wounded but alive. “Learned... lesson...” He muttered through the pain. “Going... hospital... now...” He struggled to get up, along with his friends, but in the end the group had to help them.

Kara watched them all leave. They’d live, it seemed. “My god, man...” She muttered to Mithora, who had stayed behind with Layron. “What the hell was that? I thought I explained to you, very clearly, that you weren’t supposed to be giving out permanent wounds!!!”

“But they wanted to fiiiiiiight...” Layron moaned in reply, frowning in childish unhappiness.

Mithora sighed. “At the very least, he probably scared off every thug and gangsta within a mile.” She said. “We’ll just be going.” She started to lead Layron off before he could cause any more trouble.

“Wait!” Kara exclaimed. The Fennekin turned around in time to see Kara toss a star coin at her. She caught it in her mouth. “I won’t say job ‘well’ done but it was close enough.” Mithora nodded and continued off.
