Chapter 5: Klayton

After taking the Alakazam's directions, they only had to travel for a half of an hour before the buildings of Almomola City came in sight. “There it is!” Remington exclaimed, seeing the city on the horizon.

“Finally...” Ryland complained, relieved to be finally on the last leg of the journey. “I seriously need to sit down...”

“Come on. You can manage.” Remington replied, showing his sympathy to him. He marched ahead of the others happily, eager to get to the city and deliver the letter resting in the bag at his side; all of a sudden, and completely out of nowhere, a tree fell in their path. Remington stopped and yelled in surprise as the tree crashed only inches in front of him.

For a moment, there was silence, then a familiar Pokemon teleported onto the scene. “I’m baaaaaack. Miss me?” Payton asked the three of them. “Ready for round two?” He clasped his hands together and started levitating some nearby boulders with his Telepathy. A moment later, those boulders flew at Remington and company. They all quickly reacted and got out of the way as the boulders crashed into each other where they had been standing. Payton changed tactics and started firing Tri-Attacks at the three Pokemon again. The three explorers found it easy to dodge, now that they had an idea of Payton's attack pattern. Eventually though, the Psychic got a little fed up. “Enough!” he yelled, summoning a Psycho Cut. He launched himself high into the air, flying in an arc towards Remington. Remington yelled out in shock as he came down upon him, and quickly used Metronome, hoping for the best. A sudden strength filled his arms, and he held them forward in a blocking fashion as Payton came down upon him. It wasn't enough to buffer Payton’s attack though and he was forced to take the full force of the blow, knocking him to the ground with major damage sustained.

Remington was up on his feet again only a few moments later, and looked to see that Payton had jumped back over to the spot where he had been floating before. ”Let’s try that again.” He thought, using Metronome again. He felt something appear in his palm, and he looked to see a seed. Smiling, he immediately threw it at Payton, who didn’t even notice the seed land on his tunic. Meanwhile, Payton was throwing everything he had at Amelia and Rylan. The Mawile was becoming very troublesome for him, being that she was Steel typed and was resistant to his moves. The Shinx, on the other hand, was not so much a problem; it had a dark typed attack, but the Pokemon was also slow moving. Payton focused on the electric type, throwing everything he had at the Pokemon. The only problem he was having was the constant barrage of Dark Pulses that the Mawile kept sending at him. It was so distracting, he didn’t even notice when his energy began to drain away. “Take This!” Remington suddenly yelled, jumping from on top of the tree and Tackling Payton, pinning him to the ground before he even realized what had happened.

“Ack! Where’d you come from?” Payton yelled, knocking the Munchlax off of him with a Psycho Cut. Suddenly, he felt a searing pain stab at his side, his energy being suddenly drained from him. He clutched his side, and felt a few small vines. ”Leech seed!” Payton thought.

Remington, meanwhile, was feeling a little refreshed despite being attacked just a second ago. He got up and took a hard look at Payton, who was only just now getting back off his feet. Hidden Power was obviously not an option, so he went ahead and shot a Flamethrower at the Alakazam. Payton saw the attack coming and clasped his hands together, then vanished. Remington looked around quickly, yelling “Where’d he go?!”

Payton appeared right behind him suddenly, floating in the air once again, and spin-kicked him in the back, following up with a Psycho Cut. Remington avoided the second attack, and retaliated with Tackle, knocking Payton to the ground again. Almost as quickly as he was pinned, Payton forced Remington off of him and got back off the ground again. Before he could go at him with another attack, he got blasted from behind by a Dark Pulse; Payton had no doubt it was from the Mawile. Eyeing the direction the attack came from, he spotted the Mawile and quickly shot a Tri-Attack at her before returning his focus to the Munchlax, who was again using Metronome. Remington finished up the move and instantly felt an urge to charge at Payton, sp he did; he jumped up to the Alakazam and punched him, then punched him again, and again, and again, until finally Payton knocked him away.

Payton hesitated, almost prepared to attack again, but then he relaxed. “Whew... you kids are tough...” he complimented. He took a moment to swing his arm in a windmill. “Gotta say, you kids are alright. What are your names?” Remington, Amelia, and Rylan formally introduced themselves. “Nice names. I’ll keep that in mind. See you around.” With a wave, Payton teleported away.

Remington, Amelia, and Rylan exchanged their confused expressions. “Did we just win?” Remington asked.

Amelia smiled happily. “I guess so!” She exclaimed.

They took a moment to cheer and hi-five each other; a stomp on the ground suddenly interrupted them. The three turned to see a shiny Emboar wearing black metal plates of armor, looking very agitated for some reason. “I don’t believe it!” The Emboar said. “Did Payton really just get beaten by three little punks like you?” He scoffed and spit at the ground. “Hmph. If you think you’re going to have an easier time with me, then you got another thing coming, kiddies. I actually work for a living, and I don’t hold back against anyone! Especially three little kids who’re with that stupid goldilox Kecleon. I know you have a letter for her, and if you’re not going to hand it over nicely... I’ll just have to take it and destroy it, and you as well!”

Remington stared at the Emboar in surprise. “Well aren’t you just the most random Pokemon.” he commented. The Emboar huffed, and shot a Flamethrower at Remington. Keeping his Thick Fat ability in mind, Remy quickly stepped up in front of the others and took the attack head on, keeping the others from getting hit. The Emboar huffed again and charged a Fire Blast in its hand. He threw it at Remington, but this time he dodged his attack, avoiding the explosive blast that clearly showed great ranged strength in the shiny Pokemon. Amelia and Rylan meanwhile got behind the Emboar. After exchanging a quick glance with Rylan, Amelia shot a Dark Pulse at the Emboar, while Rylan released a Discharge attack. Both attacks hit the Emboar square in the back, but they both seemed to do very little, if anything to him. The Emboar turned around, bearing a cocky smile, and glared at the two attackers. He charged a Focus Blast in his hand, and launched it at the two of them. Rylan dodged easily enough, but Amelia was not so lucky; she took the full force of the attack and sustained harsh injury.

Remington saw Amelia get blasted, and felt horror shoot through him. “NOOOO!”  he yelled, using Metronome quickly and launching a Water Pledge attack at the Emboar, causing actual damage to the Fire type. The Pokemon didn’t react much, but he did turn around and shoot a Scald attack at the Munchlax. Remington screamed in pain as he got covered in boiling water, running around like crazy in some attempt to make the pain stop. The Emboar laughed from the entertainment, taking the whole situation as a joke. Regaining his focus quickly, though, he charged a Focus Blast again and aimed at Remington. Suddenly, he felt something poke him in the back, and he turned around to see that the Shinx had Tackled him, or at least had attempted to only to have its efforts hindered by the metal armor.

“Gonna take a lot more than that to beat me.” The Emboar said, throwing the Focus Blast right in the Shinx’s face. Rylan was harshly damaged in the attack as Amelia had been, and was greatly wounded again. The Emboar turned his attention to the Munchlax once again to see that it was using Metronome. A dark-purplish energy surrounded him, then it blew out around him in an Ominous Wind, hitting the Emboar primarily, but also sending Rylan and Amelia tumbling across the ground in the wake of the Ghost type move. The Emboar stood planted on the ground until the attack ceased, then he took a hard look at Remington. “Alright kid, you’re good. You’re very good.” the Fire type admitted. “But if you think that’s all it’s gonna take to beat me,” he started walking forward. “You have another thing co-!” Suddenly he stopped, frozen in place with his upper body twisted to the left a little. “Ow. Ow ow! Ow ow ow ow ow! OW! Ohhh... my back... arrrgh...” the Pokemon’s left arm went to his back, but this created an imbalance in his stance and he toppled to the ground. “Oh... Oh god... I can’t move...! Payton... Payton, help me!”

Payton teleported onto the scene at that moment. “What am I to you, Klayton? A doctor?”

“Klayton?” Amelia asked, dragging herself over to the group to rejoin them. “That’s his name?”

“Yep. Interesting coincidence, isn’t it?” Payton commented. “A’ight, listen. We’re willing to call this a draw if you are, OK?”

Remington stared at the Emboar in disbelief; here was a new foe that was likely about to grind him to a pulp before his back suddenly became an issue. Were they really going to just let them go? “Are you really just going to let us go?” Remington asked, curious as to how he would answer.

“Yep.” Payton confirmed, smiling at the Normal type. He looked at the pinned Emboar and chuckled. “Let’s go, Klayton.”

He teleported himself and the Emboar away; Remy couldn’t help but chuckle to himself when he overheard Klayton as they left. “I swear... if it wasn’t for my back, I would have pounded the snot out of that little brat...!” he heard Klayton say.

“Ya ya, whatever you say, Klayton.” Remy heard Payton say as they vanished from sight.

With the bandits gone, Remington breathed a sigh of relief. “Well, I’m glad that’s over.” Remington said to himself, truly meaning the words. “Now, just one last thing to take care of.” He said, patting his shoulder bag which had miraculously not been lost.

          ------------------------

The sun was setting on the horizon as Remington and Amelia stood at the entrance to Anana’s shop with Rylan, giving him their goodbyes and their thanks. “You certainly were a major help back there!” Remington complemented, happy to have fought along side the Pokemon.

“Hey, I wouldn’t have even gotten to Almomola if you guys didn’t find me and help me.” Rylan replied. “Thanks for that.”

“You’re welcome. So... we’ll see you around?”

“Ya.” Rylan said. He hesitated before adding “Oh, and I'm really sorry about your partner; being missing, and all.”

Over the whole course of events that had transpired, the encounter with the thugs, and fighting two other really powerful Pokemon, they had both completely forgotten about Pyren being missing. “Oh, it’s alright. He’ll turn up. Your partner will to, I'm sure.”

“Thanks.” Rylan said. “I’d better go find Chex now. He’ll probably have a few things to say to me.” He chuckled and walked away, off to search for his group, from which he had been separated.

Amelia smiled as he walked away. “Nice guy.” She said.

“Yep. Now, let’s take care of this blasted letter.” Remington said, walking into Anana’s shop.

It had quite a few good parts, so nice job on it overall. I think you could make your battles more varied and vivid if you moved away from always naming the moves so often. Also, focusing more on certain aspects of the battle rather than giving it blow by blow is usually better. If you want more to read on writing fight scenes, I could give you some resources.
